Antoni Gaudi is one of Barcelona's most famous sons, born on 25th June 1852 in Reus, he moved to Barcelona to study architecture finally graduating in 1878. The majority of his works can be found in Barcelona and he remained here until he died in 1926.
From his early work designing the streetlamps in the Placa Reial to the ongoing and imposing work of the Sagrada Familia, Gaudi's work is unique and fascinating in his attention to detail.
In the Placa Reial the street lamps which he designed in 1878 are incredibly ornate and elegant in their surroundings. Gaudi's next work was on a much grander scale, Casa Vincens, a privately owned residence on Carrer de les Carolines, was built between 1878 - 1885 and demonstrates the first glimpses of Gaudi's genius and imagination as an artist with this fairytale style building.
In the centre of the city why not choose a Barcelona Apartment on Carrer Nou de la Rambla and enjoy one of Gaudi's later works the Guell Palace. Built between 1885 - 1890 for the Guell family, it is has an extraordinary facade with two enormous arched doors, designed in order that carriages could enter and access the stables in the basement, a great backdrop to your Barcelona apartment.

The Eixample district has many fabulous Barcelona apartments to choose from and many great examples of Gaudi's work. Perhaps the most famous is the imposing Sagrada Familia church. Gaudi spent much of his career dedicated to this project and for the last twelve years of his life 1914 - 1926 worked on this exclusively and was buried in the crypt of the church. The project commenced in 1882 and is ongoing to this day. At present it is hoped that the Sagrada Familia will be completed in 2026, the 100th anniversary of Gaudi's death.
