The Centre of Barcelona, Placa de Catalunya, Apartments in Barcelona

In the heart of the Barcelona, and central for all Barcelona apartments, is the Placa de Catalunya. This huge, open square is filled with gardens, statues, seats and fountains. It is an ideal place from which to become oriented, whichever of our Barcelona apartments you may be staying in.

The Placa de Catalunya is located between the old city (Ciutat Vella) and the 19th century Eixample district, both of which offer a range of Barcelona apartments. Even though the square is extremely large it is consistently busy and connected by nine streets, many of them with Barcelona apartments.

The square is the place where the old city meets the world-famous Rambla, home to many Barcelona apartments, and adjoins the Passeig de Gracia, a grand showcase of modernist architecture. The Placa de Catalunya is convenient for the wide range of Barcelona apartments we offer in the centre of the city. Indeed, many of our Barcelona apartments are set on, or just off the Place de Catalunya, or within close walking distance.

Surrounding the Plaça de Catalunya are monumental buildings including impressive banks and stores. Dominating the northern corner and east side is the El Corte Ingles department store, where those staying in Barcelona apartments will find excellent shopping. Visit the store's ninth floor café, which provides spectacular views over the city. You may even be able to spot your own Barcelona apartment.

Renovations to the Ramblas, where many Barcelona apartments are placed, mean a pedestrian street now runs right up into the south west corner of the Plaça de Catalunya, making it safe for those who are staying in Barcelona apartments with children.

Families staying in Barcelona apartments will love the Hard Rock café to the south, which is a fun place to eat, and there are many other restaurant choices in the square if you are staying locally in a Barcelona apartment. A new shopping centre incorporates the famous Café Zurich, a traditional meeting place for Barcelona citizens. Beyond the square to the south are Barcelona Old Town and Port, a charming setting for some of our Barcelona apartments.

A short stroll away, and convenient for most Barcelona apartments, is La Seu Cathedral. The cathedral is officially named Cathedral de la Santa Creu I Santa Eulalia, after Barcelona's Patron Saint, Eulalia.

Above the Plaça de Catalunya sits the newer, Eixample district. Its grid design, on which many Barcelona apartments are sited, is by Ildefons Cerd?.

Many Barcelona apartment guests say they love to sit on the benches at the circular center of the square and watch local people about their business. Together with the experience of staying in a traditional Barcelona apartment, it can give you a real sense of what it feels like to live here.

The Plaça de Catalunya is a main transport hub convenient for Barcelona apartments, connecting three metro lines and a railway line. City, airport and tourist buses stop here; there is also a main tourist information centre as well as many Barcelona apartments, making it an ideal point from which to plan your visit.
